Comments BVNA COUNCIL
Nikki McLeod
Honorary Secretary
I ' m a geriatric cat nurse, provisional clinical animal behaviourist and study geek, and now a returning BVNA officer.
Being on the BVNA Council has been life-changing for me: the confidence building, the connections, the learning, the public speaking and the friendships are all so worthwhile.
Hamish Morrin
Honorary Treasurer
I came to veterinary nursing very late in life – I was 38 when I qualified. For a few years before that I ' d been a zookeeper – I was lucky enough to enjoy zoo and wildlife work in New Zealand, Australia and the UK.
When I moved to the UK and became an RVN, it was a huge deal for me and it inspired me to do more. I ' ve since completed an MSc and I ' m currently enrolled in a professional doctorate in education and have been working as a lecturer for 7 years. I ' ve taught SVNs and I now teach veterinary students at the University of Lancashire.
For me, being part of the BVNA Council is all about paying it forward. So many people helped me to learn, develop and succeed; I just want to give something back to the profession that has given me so much.
Steph Worsley
Junior Vice President
Macauly Gatenby
New Council member
I am excited and honoured to have been offered the chance to extend my time on the BVNA Council and progress into the role of junior vice president.
During my time on the Council, we have already achieved so much in our work with the Competition and Markets Authority and Defra, in our participation in their working groups, and I know this work is only just beginning.
The coming years are going to require commitment, but it is an honour to represent the profession I have worked in for over 25 years.
My aim for my vice-presidential journey is to do the profession proud and keep on with the hard work that Lyndsay Hughes has started and that Sarah Holliday will be continuing during her presidential year.
I started my career as a veterinary care assistant in 2019 before graduating as an RVN in 2022. I ' ve been fortunate to sit on the BVNA Council as a Student Council member for a term, until 2023.
I have many professional interests including, but not limited to, feline nursing and behaviour. I have recently completed my Girling and Fraser APVN in small mammals and am currently undertaking a certificate in feline nursing through International Cat Care. I hope to be a voice for all VNs, whether through raising awareness around mental health and neurodiversity or supporting students and those on maternity leave.
In my spare time, I enjoy being with my hand-reared cat Nugget and my rescue pup Twiglet. I also love spending time with friends and going to drag shows. I ' m excited to be a full Council member and cannot wait to represent the veterinary nursing profession.
