RCVS consultation & panel discussion at Congress
In July , we responded to the recent ‘ Good Governance ’ consultation held by the RCVS , to establish the profession ’ s views on its governance reform proposals . Whilst we welcomed the consultation and some of the proposals , we were also concerned that the recommendations did not go far enough to recognise the capabilities of veterinary nurses to govern . You can read our full response here .
BVNA President , Lyndsay Hughes said : “ Veterinary nurses are already long established as a regulated and professional workforce . We lead in many aspects of professional and clinical practice , with joint responsibility for the welfare of patients in our care . Therefore , it is BVNA ’ s view that veterinary nurses are also fully capable of contributing equally towards the College ’ s governance ; as one of the two professions already under RCVS regulation . We hope that this consultation will provide the opportunity for the RCVS to consider how veterinary nurses can be better utilised within its future approach to governance .”
In response to a number of our members sharing similar concerns , we will be continuing the discussion during BVNA Congress . Join us on Saturday 12th October , 13:45 – 14:45 for a panel discussion on “ Visions of future VN regulation ”. Have the opportunity to pose your questions to leaders within the profession , and be part of the ongoing conversation about the future of veterinary nursing .
