Welcome

Nikki Ruedisueli , RVN | nicola @ bvna . co . uk
VNJ Editor , Head of Learning and Development at BVNA

Welcome to your September issue of VNJ . Thanks for all the great feedback you have sent us – we love hearing from you . Your feedback on the digital version has been particularly helpful in informing our ongoing development of the digital VNJ .

Unbelievably , we ' re already nearly in the final quarter of 2022 , so we ' re starting to plan the 2023 issues of VNJ . Please let us know what you ' d like us to feature – and if you have a topic you ' d like to write an article about , don ' t be shy , get in touch – we ' ll support you throughout the process .
You might feel a topic you handle every day is too mundane to feature in an article , but it could actually be entertaining or educational to other VNs . If , on the other hand , you ' ve dealt with a rare case and are concerned others may not relate to it , sharing the experience could prove extremely useful to other VNs if they come across a similar situation in the future .
The article could have a clinical , student or any other workplace-related theme – if it matters to you , it ' s likely to matter to other VNs too . We welcome contributions from all SVNs and RVNs – new and experienced – everyone ' s voice is valued . You can submit ideas via the usual email address : vnj @ bvna . co . uk .
Don ' t forget to check out our website and social media for the latest information and updates on the fast-approaching BVNA Congress . It promises to be a memorable event , with plenty of vet-nurse-specific sessions and social events .
Be sure to visit the BVNA stand to find out more about the Anaesthesia and Behaviour pathways and upcoming regional events . Head to the VN Futures sessions to hear about the School Ambassadors project . And ensure you have your say about the future of the vet nursing profession by joining the discussion groups .
There will also be demonstrations from our exhibitors in the main hall in the Exhibition Hub , plus a VNJ writing workshop and an introduction to Schwartz Rounds . ( In case you haven ' t heard about them : they have the potential to transform emotional wellbeing in the veterinary profession , so come and join us to discover how they work .)
We look forward to seeing you on 7 – 9 October at Telford International Centre . In the meantime , pop the kettle on , put your feet up and enjoy your September issue of VNJ .
Your Council members have been busy working on member benefits over the summer , including the Student Toolkit , building a mentoring scheme for newly registered VNs and developing a Clinical Coach network . We ' ll have more on these initiatives in future issues .
On a personal note , there have been a few additions to the Ruedisueli household over the summer : four milk froglets , three chickens and an adopted kitten called Willow – and yes , it ' s been as chaotic as you ' d imagine !
When playing , my dog Luci finds it hard to contain his excitement and has almost squashed Willow a couple of times with his paws but , thankfully , he realised in time and no harm was done . You ' ll be pleased to know that my other dog Lily is doing very well at ignoring her prey drive and actually plays nicely – even when Willow is hanging on her nose ! I ' d forgotten that kittens appear to have no fear in new situations but , I ' m delighted to say , Willow has managed to reach 4 months old with her limbs and confidence still intact .
