We see a lot of blood test rechecks in medicine, and writing a little note about the dog ' s preference to be on the table or the floor, with or without the owner, or using a hind leg rather than a front leg, can all minimise stress during their next visit.
What effect has the certification had on the team?
There ' s certainly been challenges in making everyone aware of what ideas have been implemented, with it being such a big practice, but I’ m grateful to everyone who has been involved in the group so far and those who helped with the application( Figure 5).
I think as VNs, a lot of how we handle our patients comes as second nature to us, through training and on-the-job experience. The process of getting certified has allowed us to reflect on the things we do well and the areas we could improve in, and it reminds everyone that we do a good job!

For me personally, it ' s been nice to focus on a different side of nursing, to get involved with making changes and to develop some transferable skills.
Is there anything else you ' d like to mention?
If there are any practices out there looking to get certified, the team at Dogs Trust are super friendly and helpful. I ' d also like to thank Dogs Trust, Pride Veterinary Referrals and Scarsdale Vets for their support and permission to use the photos and video that accompany this interview.
