• Opioid, Alpha-2 agonists & Ketamine. Inductions agents were either propofol or alfaxalone, and all patients were maintained under anaesthesia on oxygen and isoflurane.
3.5 Temperature measurements The patient’ s temperature was taken at set points during their time in the hospital and whilst under anaesthetic. On admission, the patient’ s vital parameters( pulse rate, respiration rate, capillary refill time and temperature) were recorded. This was dependant on the dog’ s temperament and demeanour, and out of the 99 dogs in the study, the admission temperature of only 35 patients was recorded. The next time their temperature was recorded was following induction of anaesthesia, which was approximately 10 minutes before they were moved into the MRI suite. Their temperature was then next recorded after the patient’ s scan had finished and they were moved out of the MRI suite. See Figure 1 for the timeline of events. All temperatures were taken rectally using a digital thermometer. It was not recorded if the thermometers had a plastic cover( IMS Digital Thermometer Covers with Lubricant) on or not whilst the patient’ s temperature was taken.

3.6 MRI Investigations All patients within the study were anaesthetised for an MRI scan of either their brain, spine or shoulder( or a combination of the three), and were positioned in either sternal, dorsal, or lateral recumbency respectively, dependant on what area was being imaged. They were
