Welcome
Nikki Ruedisueli, RVN | VNJ Editor | nicola @ bvna. co. uk
As you read this, the BVNA team is busily undertaking the final preparations for BVNA Congress 2025. We hope to see you there; this year marks 60 years since the launch of BVNA, and Congress promises to be an amazing celebration.
If you haven ' t already bought your tickets, it ' s not too late. In fact, you can buy tickets on the day, so there ' s no reason not to join us for 3 days of lectures, seminars, discussions, workshops – and fun! There will be streams to accommodate a wide range of interests and levels.
At the Annual General Meeting, held at BVNA Congress from 3:15 pm to 4:15 pm on Saturday 11 October, BVNA will welcome five new Council members. See page 6 for more details about your new representatives. Also in this issue, the BMAS team shares its expertise on the disclosure of criminal convictions to the RCVS. We have our first opinion piece: Callum Harrington proposes a VN prescriber role similar to the nurse prescriber roles that already exist in human healthcare. Let us know what you think of his ideas.
Among this month ' s clinical articles, Caroline Nuttall and Catherine Hemingway review diet and accommodation for guinea pigs and discuss how VNs can advocate for this popular pet; and Hannah Puddy and Sarah Vivian look at whether stress behaviours in hospitalised cats are affected by the level of outdoor access the cats have at home.
Jade Mayes evaluates the care given to a lop-eared rabbit with ear disease, and outlines how selective breeding has an impact on aural health. Plus, Carrie Kearns and Tracey Woods provide advice on how VNs can support owners before, during and after the euthanasia of their pet.
I ' m looking forward to catching up with as many of you as possible at Congress. See you there!
