Welcome to the June issue of VNJ; we have some amazing articles for you.

In this issue you ' ll find three articles focusing on the nursing care and management of brachycephalic dogs. Ana Carina Costa and Niamh Clancy discuss a case of brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome surgery involving a french bulldog with a mass in the laryngeal fold; Amy Sheppard investigates veterinary nurses ' confidence in monitoring brachycephalic dogs under general anaesthesia; and Shaniya Moore discusses a challenging case of an aggressive French bulldog with thoracolumbar intervertebral disc disease, focusing on the anaesthetic considerations during the patient ' s MRI and hemilaminectomy.
Also in this issue, Sophie Jelley describes and evaluates the nursing care of a patient undergoing tibial plateau levelling osteotomy( TPLO) surgery; Lauryn Read reminds us of the impact of poor mental health on many aspects of our lives and the support available to us; and Rebecca Courtley encourages more of us to become advocates for our feline friends and reveals us how she became a‘ crazy cat nurse’, despite having started her veterinary nursing career afraid of cats.
This year, VNJ will host a live event at Congress. If you have an idea for research, a clinical audit or a case study, but aren ' t sure where to start, join us at VNJ Live to learn more about getting into research and quality improvement( QI). We ' ll provide an opportunity for SVNs and RVNs to showcase their projects in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
There will also be the chance to chat to our panel of presenters about your ideas – with mentorship available if you ' d like to develop these further and work towards future publication. Find out more at https:// www. facebook. com / hashtag / BVNACongress2025 – we ' ll provide further details soon.
Also on the subject of BVNA Congress, nominations are now open for the VNJ Writer of the Year award, which forms part of the annual awards and prize-giving ceremony at Congress. Turn to page 6 for a roundup of the eligible articles from August 2024 to July 2025.
