The dexmedetomidine must be attached to a three-way tap , along with the fluids , and connected to one port of the Y-connector as shown in Figure 3 .
The Y-connector port must be labelled with a label clearly marked as dexmedetomidine .
This set-up allows the other port to be used to administer other infusions / medications , without the risk of administering a large bolus of dexmedetomidine .
