Welcome
Nikki Ruedisueli , RVN | VNJ Editor | nicola @ bvna . co . uk
I can hardly believe we ' re already in December . 2024 has been an incredible year for BVNA , filled with key moments such as our discussions with the Competition and Markets Authority ( CMA ) about potential competition concerns in the veterinary sector . We ' ve also made visits to Parliament to champion the ‘ Protect the Title : Veterinary Nurse ’ campaign , and we ' ve provided feedback on the RCVS ' s new governance proposals .
Don ' t miss the photos from BVNA Congress 2024 on page 6 – it was an amazing weekend . Charlotte Bullard created a fresh and informative programme of lectures , workshops , panel discussions and hands-on sessions , while Lisa Brett ensured everything ran seamlessly . Next year marks the 60th anniversary of BVNA , so make sure you join us for an event packed with learning , networking and fun .
The clinical articles in this issue begin with Aneesa Malik and Sofia Saraiva ' s in-depth coverage of pain in ferrets , with a particular focus on the assessment of pain . Emma Foley has provided a case study and patient care proposal for a seizuring brachycephalic dog with aspiration pneumonia . We also have Paula Hirst ' s case study and nursing care analysis focusing on managing in-patient stress . Also in this issue , Hannah Thompson looks at the impact of sole-charge nursing on patient care , and Ruby Scholefield has contributed a helpful guide on enteral feeding tubes .
a moment to read Bonnie Griffin ' s moving feature on pregnancy loss , in which she discusses how veterinary practices can support staff who have experienced a miscarriage .
The quality of work you ' ve submitted to the journal this year has been exceptional . As a result , VNJ was shortlisted for the Membership Publication of the Year award at the Professional Publishers Association ( PPA ) Independent Publisher Awards 2024 , alongside the magazines of brands like the National Trust and Slimming World .
We couldn ' t publish VNJ without your contributions and every article helps build the evidence base needed to advance veterinary nursing care . Our peer-review process guarantees the content you read is reliable and accurate . Plus , VNJ ' s digital platform offers bonus material , such as full dissertations , audio tracks , appendices and videos related to the published articles . We have some superb content planned for 2025 so , as always , keep your contributions ( and feedback ) coming – this is your journal , after all .
I hope you enjoy the issue and have a wonderful festive season . Best wishes to you , your loved ones , colleagues and , of course , the animals in your life , from all of us at VNJ .
Before you get stuck in to all things clinical , be sure to look at BMAS ' s article on the recent changes to the law on sexual harassment in the workplace . And take
