in human and veterinary medicine . Labruyère and Barton [ 17 ] also state that there is an ‘ enormous opportunity for collaboration between animal and human health to develop and trial imaging modalities and AI algorithms that speed up the development of diagnostic tools in both fields . This makes diagnostic imaging another area where a two-way flow of information and expertise would benefit both human and animal health enormously ‘.
Conclusions
The veterinary profession has advanced considerably since 1985 , when I began working as a VN . Modern veterinary and human healthcare facilities have much in common with each other in terms of the equipment used , procedures undertaken and expertise required . Over the years , we have sought inspiration from our human healthcare counterparts on how to improve and advance our patient care and services , and they have sought the same from us . The One Health initiatives show how collaboration benefits both human and veterinary healthcare , and it could be argued that the transferability of skills and knowledge between the two professions is also hugely beneficial .
I have observed , directly and indirectly , changes in both professions and the way in which skills can be transferred between them . Training and experience in veterinary nursing provides a substantial skill set , which can be carried forward along a career path of your choice . In my own experience , my career path eventually led me to discover my niche . To paraphrase Liam Neeson ' s character , Bryan Mills , in the film Taken : ‘ What I do have are a very particular set of skills . Skills I have acquired over a very long career ’ [ 18 ] . I hope to be able to continue to develop these skills for many years to come , for the benefit of my patients .
