Get involved with BVNA
There are lots of rewarding and flexible ways to get involved with BVNA .
BVNA Council
To have a bigger say on the strategy of BVNA and how we represent the veterinary nursing community , you could become a Council member . The BVNA Council is a team of student and registered veterinary nurses who represent the profession at working groups and lobby the government for change . As a Council volunteer , you will be an integral part of BVNA and our campaigns , as well as having the opportunity to develop your own projects to support the profession .
BVNA Advocates
BVNA Advocates ( BAs ) play a vital role in raising awareness of our profession in the community , as well as supporting veterinary nurses in their region . As a BA , you would arrange a minimum of 6 hours ' CPD for your area , with the support of other BAs and BVNA Council members . You can also represent BVNA at the annual BVNA Congress , talking to delegates on the BVNA stand as well as chairing sessions .
BVNA Congress
Members get a discount on the ticket price for the event , which is the only veterinary nursing congress in the UK . There are lectures , seminars and workshops , along with an exhibition hall packed with interesting products and services . The threeday event provides enough CPD to complete 15 hours of learning – but it ' s not all work ! You can also look forward to bingo with a twist , happy hour , afternoon tea and the annual dinner dance and awards evening .

In addition to supporting the veterinary nursing profession , BVNA membership has lots of other benefits .
Financial support
BVNA members can access financial assistance , including the BVNA Educational Bursary of up to £ 500 , to enable RVNs and SVNs to further their education ; The Kennel Club Bursary of up to £ 3,000 over 3 years , towards the cost of veterinary nurse training ; and the Lifelong Learner Bursary of up to £ 2,000 , in memory of Louise O ' Dwyer , towards an accredited course fee . Members can also access the Daphne Shipman Benevolent Fund , which offers support to members and their families during times of hardship or need .
BVNA CPD and courses
As a member , you have discounted access to our Pathway courses , which currently include oral care , anaesthesia and behaviour , with a leadership course also launching in 2024 . These bite-size courses have been developed to enable veterinary nurses to further progress their career in their preferred subjects .
BVNA Members Advisory Service ( BMAS )
BMAS provides a 9 – 5 support service to members , 5 days a week . The human resources team provides independent and impartial support via telephone or email on subjects such as bullying , harassment , employment law and work-related stress .
Veterinary Nursing Journal
BVNA ' s Veterinary Nursing Journal ( VNJ ) is an international , peer-reviewed journal containing clinical articles , features , research , interviews and BVNA news . Members are encouraged to submit articles to increase the evidence base of veterinary nursing practice . VNJ ' s editorial team is happy to support new writers every step of the way . Writing articles counts towards CPD hours and you will be paid for work published in VNJ .
